nuclear solar energy
Many folks are against nuclear energy and when you ask them why they bring up Chernobyl and Hiroshima. Yes, these are historical events that where quite problematic, but should that really keep us from building nuclear power plants in the United States?
Another huge issue is one with nation-states that are rogue nations, dictatorships or have so much civil unrest that they could easily topple; what if enriched uranium gets into the hands of terrorists?
Well, yes, these are concerns and yet, we noted that the shipment of uranium from Budapest to Siberia made it there okay, 300 plus pounds, humans are dealing with these issues of waste, storage and keeping the material in check. There are storage areas available and the radio-active material can always be shot into the Sun one day, when we have safer space vehicles to get it away from the planet and send it to its final destination.
And did you know that all the radio-active material that mankind has ever needed to store, can fit on the floor of a high-school gymnasium? Blowing out of proportion the nuclear waste issue is misleading and dishonest in my opinion. Yes, long-term storage is an issue and radioactive decay lasts forever and a day, as compared to human life-spans.
Still, the solution is not more than 50-years away anyhow. Humans will figure it all out; they always do when push comes to shove. We need to find ways to store it for 150-200 years max, by then technology will be available to deal with it and delete the problem all in one swoop. Modern day particle physics has come a long way and it we will continue to learn more.
We should not fear nuclear power, we should embrace it, but carefully monitor its use in the world. So please consider this.
