How do I find an old, run-down farm/homestead to buy?
Finally time for the next chapter of life. Kids are grown. Tired of renting. SHTF in my area so I wish to find a piece of land for hunting, fishing, and gardening. Ideally with some sort of shelter to rehab-barn, shed, cabin shell,quonset hut, etc. Off-grid survival cabin might work.
Move to Maine. Seriously. There are tons and any local real estate office would be happy to show them to you. We bought an old farmhouse two years ago that needed quite a bit of work but has lots of land. We have a huge garden, pigs, sheep, chickens. Deer are all over the place and we even have bear and moose. The house and land cost us $60,000.
Prior to this we bought some wooded land and built a straw-bale off the grid house. Total cost of land and building: $30,000.
